Online community for golfers
Well I said I was going to start posting more frequently and hey guess what, I didn’t. Well here I am back and have decided to provide a full review of one of my websites that is steadily growing and seems to be organically turning into a golf community with 14,000+ registered users in the last year.
What makes it a community ?
To be honest who knows I think one of the biggest aspects is the fact that the users have helped develop the site by providing feedback on the types of facilites they would like to see. Also the majority of new users join from hearing about it from existing users and word of mouth, which is great given the fact I do no advertising and I now have 14,000 users.
So what is it I hear you ask ?
It is exactly what it says on the tin, a golf score tracker. The site allows members to login and track their golf rounds on the site and then view analysis and statistics to hopefully allow them to improve their golf game. It also tracks golf handicaps for UK golfers and the USGA handicap index for any US users, again these are backed up with analysis and graphical reports.
Does that really make it a community ?
No but the site gives you access to so much more. As you would aspect from any community the site provides access to an online forum and information relevant to golfers, which in this instance is the golf course information. The system allows users to post reviews on the courses and access the course data which also includes mash ups to golf google maps
Users and the community
Probably the biggest community aspect of the site is the user interaction. Users get access to their own online golf space which can be publically available and provides access to an online golf blog. The ‘Find a Playing Partner’ system allows users to find other golfers to arrange games with and contacat via the inbuilt Private Message system.
Golf buddies can be saved and then the system allows users to compare golf score and golf handicap performance so that you can see really who is the better golfer.

Rounds can also be linked between golf buddies allowing you to see how you faired during a round and again let’s you see who the better golf really is !

So from a user aspect these features really do allow the site to offer a community for golfers, finding new golfers or staying in touch with your exising friends using an interaction online golf system.
What more ?
Yes, the system also provides facilities for users to create competitions/events that other users can register for, as well as private run competitions. This is a great way for golfers to get to know new golfers and play with a different bunch of people. The golfscoretracker system provides all the functionality for users to create and run their own events and also provides competition results and analysis.

And more ?
Yes believe it or not there is more functionality with access to the golf society system. Creating a golf society allows users to run and maintain their own golf society, these can be public or private and set-up so that users can request to join an existing public society.
The society system provides a private society forum, access to society members, competition results and a society leaderboard. Administrators also have access to create additional accounts for non internet users so that no one misses out !
The site was recently updated so that the societies can also be set-up for complete public access so that non GST users can so what is going on. Over the next few months this faciity will be extended so that the golf socities really do have their own online golf society space.
So what’s next ?
Can’t really give the secrets away
but all I can say is watch this space.
